How PR Companies Are Helping Startups to Raise Capital

Since I founded JMG PR, my goal has always been to work with companies that I am not only passionate about, but ones I believe can help make an impact on society. As the year is slowly coming to a close (I still can’t believe we’ll be heading into our 5th year in just a few short months), I decided it was time to give the company website a slightly new look and feel especially since we’ve started focusing heavily on working with start-up companies.

One of the many things I love about start-up companies is the fact that they are innovators, working towards shaping the future. Being a start-up myself, I can relate to a founder’s dream of creating something they’re passionate about and leaving a mark in their chosen field. They’re inspiring people to work with and for us, we enjoy going into the office each day knowing that we get to work on some really cool projects that are making a difference in the world.

But starting your own company is not as easy as it might sound. I remember what it was like in the early days for JMG PR and it got me thinking. So much so that I decided to strengthen the company’s focus ever so slightly.

Over the last six months we’ve grown, and with growth comes new directions. While we were already working with a few companies that fall into the start-up category, we wanted a stronger focus on these types of businesses.

In order for startup companies to see growth they must seek funding which often times comes from outside sources, such as venture capitalists. But finding financing is one of the biggest challenges business owners face.

That’s where we at JMG PR come in. Through well-crafted strategies we can help  startups get in front of the right investors. Some of the ways in which we are creating an impact for our clients include:

➢   Media Coverage - Media not only drives leads to a site, it also helps to establish a strong presence in the news. People trust what they read and we want to establish our startups as credible sources in their respective fields.

➢   Brand Awareness - Through placement in relevant publications, we are getting more people, including investors, to not only recognize but remember our client’s name. There are plenty of companies all working to secure funding, so it’s our job to make sure the clients that we work with are at the forefront of the media.

➢   Visibility - A significant amount of visibility in the press provides an investor with a third-party analysis and viewpoint. Through extensive research we’ve found that 80% of business decision-makers prefer to get information about a company through a series of article versus an advertisement. While many startups believe targeted ads are the way to attract the attention of investors we’ve actually found that to be just the opposite.

It’s important for myself and the JMG team to align ourselves with like-minded business people; those who are looking to make an impact and who genuinely want to do good. It’s what we strive for everyday in both our professional and personal lives. And it’s that drive that allows us to succeed in our efforts. The caliber of our work speaks volumes and the PR accolades we’ve received so far are a great reminder that we’re succeeding in our mission.

Here are some of the highlights of our PR wins for our startup clients:

  • Inc magazine named one of our CEOs as one of the 100 Female Founders for 2019. It will also be within the October 2019 issue.

  • Entrepreneur magazine named that CEO to their 2019 list of ‘Females Reshaping the Business World’

  • Another CEO was featured on ‘The Exchange’ on CNBC.

  • Here is one of our clients who is a CCO and recently featured on Yahoo! Finance.

We hope we helped share with you some of the reasoning behind why PR can get startups the attention of venture capitalists and why that has become such a focus for us these days! Let us know any thoughts in the comments below.
